A guide to everything you need to rewild, & support your health
The sections in this guide are going to be quick(ish) and to-the-point(ish) so that you don’t have to sift through too much information, and can use it as a quick reference. Check out my deep dives on each of these topics if you want to learn more.
This required HOURS spent over the past few years of learning, trial & error, and product testing - but I decided to make this available for free because everyone should have access to quality foods & products!
If you would like, you can support me and my mission (equipping you to be your own health advocate!!) with a paid subscription :)
Health is all about CHOICES!!! You don’t have to be perfect all the time in every aspect of your life. Hopefully this guide can help point you towards better options so that you can continue to build upon your health journey, one manageable step at a time.
This will be an ongoing guide that I will continue to add to. Comment below any topic requests.

Let’s get into it!
Groceries
Between the growing, processing, and additives, most of our foods are filled with things that we were not intended to eat. There are better options at any and every grocery chain, but the “health food” items are typically cheaper at “health food” grocery chains like Whole Foods because they turn more of these products. They can be even MORE affordable from local farms near you. I have some links below for finding a farmer, and I recommend joining Facebook groups local to you. My general rule-of-thumb:
❌ AVOID: highly processed & packaged foods, unrecognizable ingredients, “artificial” anything, pesticide/herbicide/fungicide use, animals fed a grain diet
👍 BETTER: minimally processed foods with ingredients you recognize, certified organic products. Typically more affordable at health food stores like:
Whole Foods
Sprouts
Fresh Thyme
✅ BEST: local, seasonal, homemade, home-grown, farm-to-fork, fresh whole foods. Organic, regenerative, grass fed, pasture raised, “better than organic” practices (certified USDA is good to look for at the store, but a lot of smaller local farms will have “better than organic” practices even though they aren’t certified. Talk to your farmers about their practices!)

Find a CSA - Community Supported Agriculture

Water
Tap city water is filled with pesticides, pharmaceuticals, neurotoxic fluoride, extremely high levels of chlorine, heavy metals, and more. Plastic bottles leech chemicals into your water. Stick to glass or stainless steel, and filter your water with what you can afford. Charcoal filters like Britta are better than nothing, but don’t remove compounds like fluoride or microplastics. Filters like Berkey are better, but reverse osmosis is best in terms of filters. Optimal is fresh spring water that hasn’t been contaminated.
❌ AVOID:
Tap city water
Plastic bottles
👍 BETTER:
Filtered water - Berkey, clearly filtered
✅ BEST: spring water, RO filtered water with added minerals, Solé water, glass / stainless steel / copper
Spring water (tested for quality) -
Filters
Affordable countertop RO system with glass pitcher
Most grocery stores have an RO fill station
Mineralize
Solé with mineral salt
Storage / accessories
Glass jugs & bottles code BRIGHTER
Produce - Fruits & Vegetables
Most of our crops are now sprayed with glyphosate and other chemicals. Certified organic addresses the pesticide / herbicide issue, but can be more expensive when shopping at conventional grocers. Health food stores are more affordable; co-ops, local farms, and farmers markets are your best bet for the most affordable, organic, or better than organic produce. Talk to your farmer!
❌ AVOID: pesticide/herbicide/fungicides, GMO, “apeel”, wax coatings
👍 BETTER: certified organic. Typically better quality and more affordable at “health food” chains like:
Whole Foods
Sprouts
Fresh Thyme
✅ BEST: local, seasonal, regeneratively grown, organic or better than organic growing practices
Meats
Meat is incredibly nourishing when sourced responsibly. You can find organic & grass fed in most stores, but its best to source a local farmer where you can buy organic grass fed meats in bulk at a much more affordable price (as low as $4/pound!!!)
❌ AVOID: conventional warehouse / feedlot meats
👍 BETTER: organic, grass fed / pasture raised meats
✅ BEST: local, organic, grass fed, grass finished, regeneratively farmed
Thousand Hills Minnesota Grass Fed + Regenerative Meats
Northstar Bison Wisconsin Grass Fed + Regenerative Meats
Force of Nature Texas Grass Fed + Regenerative Meats
White Oak Pastures Georgia Grass Fed + Regenerative Meats
Nose to Tail - Texas Meat Delivery, code BRIGHTER for $25 off $75+
Eggs
Conventional chickens are kept in tiny cages and are fed GMO / pesticide grains. There is some “greenwashing” happening with terms like “vegetarian diet” (chickens aren’t vegetarians, they should be eating grubs and bugs), and “cage free” (this simply means there’s no cage, but they’re still packed into warehouses). The best of the best is going to be chickens in your own backyard, a friend or family member, or a local farmer with pasture raised chickens fed minimal to no organic grains. Use one of the linked maps, talk to people in your community, and join Facebook groups in your area.
❌ AVOID: conventional white bleached eggs, egg replacements / vegan eggs, “vegetarian diet”, “cage free”
👍 BETTER: free range, organic, pasture raised
✅ BEST: local, unwashed, pasture raised, regenerative, “better than organic” practices
Dairy
Homogenization and pasteurization denatures the milk, and inactivates enzymes that help us to break down and digest the milk (e.g. lactase enzyme - cue lactose intolerance epidemic). You can find local farmers selling raw dairy almost anywhere. It is legal to sell in stores in some states, but not in others. Low temp pasteurized is better, local/raw/fresh is best.
❌ AVOID: conventional, homogenized, ultra pasteurized, fortified, skim, plant based alternatives
👍 BETTER: grass-fed, organic, low temp pasteurized
Kalona Supernatural sold in many health food stores like Whole Foods
✅ BEST: local, raw, un-homogenized, unpasteurized, grass fed, grass finished, organic, A2, regenerative
Raw Farms - sold in stores where it’s legal
Fats & Oils
Look for fats that are close to where they come from in nature: cold pressed oils like olive & coconut, butter, & tallows/lard from properly raised animals.
❌ AVOID: refined seed oils; sunflower, safflower, canola/rapeseed, soybean, vegetable oil, vegetable shortening, margarine, plant based butters
👍 BETTER: cold pressed organic oils, organic grass fed butter
✅ BEST: organic extra virgin single origin olive oil in dark glass, local grass fed butter, grass fed ghee, grass fed tallow from beef or bison
Nuts / Seeds / Grains / Legumes
These foods can be less tolerable for a lot of people. Listen to your body, if you don’t feel great after eating something, don’t eat it - even if it’s deemed a “health” food (like many nuts/seeds/legumes are…). We can make these more tolerable and digestible by soaking, sprouting/activating, pounding, nixtamalizing, and fermenting them.
❌ AVOID: conventional/non-organic, fried in seed oils, fortified with folic acid
👍 BETTER: certified organic
✅ BEST: organic activated/sprouted nuts/seeds, soaked beans and grains, fermented grains like sourdough, nixtamalized corn (traditional corn tortillas treated with lime)
Sugars / Sweeteners
Sugar isn’t the problem; highly processed & refined sugars are. There are more nutritive sources of sugar that contain many minerals and important nutrients.
❌ AVOID: white sugar, corn syrup, artificial sweeteners like Sucralose, aspartame, acesulfame-K
👍 BETTER: organic raw cane sugar, organic stevia leaf
✅ BEST: organic raw local honey, local maple syrup, date paste, molasses
Bread & Baked Goods
Most baked goods are filled with GMO glyphosate grains, fortified with low quality synthetic vitamins, preservatives, seed oils, refined sugars, etc. Best to make your own sourdough, or find a local baker.
❌ AVOID: conventional, non-organic, bleached, white, enriched, fortified
👍 BETTER: certified organic
✅ BEST: organic sourdough baked goods with ancient grains like spelt, einkorn, or heritage wheat
Sunrise Flour Mills - 10% off heritage grains & sourdough kits
Your local co-op might have local sourdough, and bulk organic flours
Salt
Salt is not to be feared; it is a necessary mineral for health and life. It needs to be consumed in balance with other minerals like potassium, magnesium, calcium, etc. - which iodized table salt is stripped of.
❌ AVOID: iodized table salt
👍 BETTER: Himalayan sea salt, sea salt
✅ BEST: sea salts tested for quality:
Crucial Four Icelandic Sea Salt
Supplements
The supplement industry isn’t regulated. Be wary of the MANY marketing gimmicks to sell you a “miracle” supplement that is going to “change your life”… Supplements can help us along the way, but there is no miracle supplement. Prioritize real whole foods first, ALWAYS. Prioritize whole food supplements instead of isolated vitamins.
❌ AVOID: marketing gimmicks, MLMs, artificial / synthetic additives, isolated synthetic ingredients, generic multivitamins, fish oil
👍 BETTER: certified organic / quality sourcing
✅ BEST: organic, third party tested, stored in glass, whole food supplements like desiccated organs, ground berries, or herbs

Pasture Raised eggs
Grass fed meats + organ meats
Raw grass fed dairy - butter, milk, yogurt, kefir

Personal Care
Deodorant
How you smell really starts from the inside. The food you eat, and the state of your health determine the way your body & sweat smells. If your body is under a high toxic load, your armpits will sweat and stink more. Address food and lifestyle, and use non-toxic alternatives
❌ AVOID: antiperspirants, aluminum, fragrances
👍 BETTER: non-antiperspirant, “natural” versions
✅ BEST: no deodorant, magnesium oil spray, minimal ingredients
Toothpaste
❌ AVOID: fluoride, artificial colors, artificial flavors, foaming agents
👍 BETTER: natural & fluoride free toothpastes like Boka and Risewell
✅ BEST: minimal ingredients, minerals
Shampoo / Conditioner / Soap
❌ AVOID: conventional, fragrance, alcohols, synthetic chemicals, antibacterial soaps
👍 BETTER: natural versions like Under Luna, Dr. Bronners Castille Soap
✅ BEST: minimal, handmade, organic
No-poo method
Clay / herb masks
Skincare & Makeup
Evaluate your need for makeup. Is there an underlying issue that is causing cosmetic symptoms like acne, dark circles, dry skin? I urge you to simplify your skincare and makeup routine as you improve your health from the inside out. A healthy body will have more radiant, supple, glowing skin. Even more importantly, who you are and how you act are what makes true beauty.
❌ AVOID: conventional products with loads of ingredients and “steps”
👍 BETTER: organic / natural products
✅ BEST: minimal & simplistic
Sun Exposure / Sun Block
Do not fear the sun - it is a healing life-force. The SUN is not bad… burning is. Blocking the sun actually reduces our body’s ability to process sunlight and reap the benefits, while naturally building a tolerance. Get morning sun exposure on your skin and eyes; build a “sun callus” by slowly increasing your sun exposure over days/weeks, cover up with clothing and get out of the sun if needed. If necessary, use a natural sunblock alternative:
❌ AVOID: fearing the sun, always using sun glasses, burning, going from 0-100 (like what most people do on vacation!), avoid processed foods and seed oils to improve your sun tolerance
👍 BETTER: natural sun block
✅ BEST: morning / sunrise sun exposure daily, build a sun callus / tolerance, eat a local, fresh, seasonal, whole food diet
Clothing
Most clothing now is made with terrible synthetic fibers, and the ones that aren’t are very expensive. I prioritize natural fibers only, but don’t stress about “best of the best” when I can’t afford it. I’m most often at the thrift shop looking for 100% cotton / linen / wool. Start with undergarments because they are right on your skin and reproductive organs.
❌ AVOID: synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, rayon, acrylic
👍 BETTER: cotton, linen, wool, silk - Quince, Indigo Luna, thrift shopping!
✅ BEST: organic, plant dyed natural fibers like cotton, linen, wool, silk
Shoes
Our shoes block the electrical conduction between our bodies and the earth (grounding/earthing). Arch support and narrow shoes cause weak feet, bunions, plantar fasciitis, etc. Look for “barefoot shoes”
❌ AVOID: arch support, narrow-toed shoes
👍 BETTER: wide toe box, “zero drop” (flat) shoes
✅ BEST: barefoot, “barefoot” shoes, grounded shoes
Earthrunners - I wear these DAILY when there isn’t snow on the ground
Lems - I LOVE my waterproof leather boots!
Anyas Reviews has TONS of info on barefoot shoes
Fitness
We see 2 extremes: not moving at all, sitting at a desk from 9-5 and on the couch from 5-9; or doing overly intense HIIT/cardio for maximum calorie burn. Neither of these extremes support overall health and longevity.
❌ AVOID: being sedentary, not moving all day, doing high intensity workouts chasing calorie burn regularly (many workout classes are like this…)
👍 BETTER: strength & ability focused exercise classes like pilates, bar classes, Hotworx
✅ BEST: WALKINGGGG - the most underrated form of movement. Steady state activities that you love, mobility, strength training / weight lifting
ATG is amazing for functional training - they have a lot of free content HERE
Kinstretch is a strength and joint focused mobility training that everyone should do - you can search anything you are looking for like full body kinstretch, hip focused kinstretch, etc. I like The RKM

Household
❌ AVOID: harsh chemicals, synthetic fibers like polyester, flicker LED lighting, blue light, fragrance
👍 BETTER: natural versions, essential oils as fragrance, real natural fibers
✅ BEST: minimal / natural / handmade cleaners, organic cotton / wool / linen, flicker free low blue light lighting
Cleaners
Baking soda & vinegar
Rubbing alcohol
Laundry Detergent
Baking soda & vinegar
Fabrics & Bedding
Organic & Plant Dyed is best - like Juniper & Bliss
Electronics / EMFs / Lighting
Block Blue Light - bulbs, desk lamps, red lights, and more. 10% Code BRIGHTER

Kitchen Cookware
❌ AVOID: teflon, plastic, non-stick coatings
👍 BETTER: silicone, wood, ceramic, cast iron pans
✅ BEST: untreated hardwood utensils/cutting boards, carbon steel, clay cookware, glass
ToxyFree has the best kitchen solutions!

I loved the FRCms cert, Kinstretch was great if you are planning to teach group mobility classes. You need a base certification / degree in fitness / kinesiology before getting this one.
